How does PBLS support our volunteers? We work in a number of ways to support lawyers providing pro bono legal services:
CBA Disbursement Fund
Volunteer lawyers also have the CBA Disbursement Fund available to them when taking on pro bono files. Volunteer lawyers who provide pro bono legal services to low-income individuals through PBLS approved programs, may bill PBLS for the cost of necessary and reasonable disbursements incurred up to $1,000 (or beyond in special circumstances). PBLS’s disbursement coverage is made possible by a grant from the Saskatchewan Branch of the Canadian Bar Association.
Victor P Dietz K.C. Pro Bono Service Award
This award is presented annually to a recipient who engages in delivering, establishing, coordinating, or advocating, in relation to pro bono legal services in Saskatchewan. A call for nominations occurs in December/January, and the recipient is selected by a Selection Committee.
