Frequently Asked Questions About Pro Bono Law Saskatchewan

A: No, you will first have to go through an intake to see if you qualify for our programs. Pro Bono Law Saskatchewan screens clients by their income. We want to make sure that we are serving clients that would not be able to afford a lawyer or qualify for Legal Aid.

A: We cover every area of law! If you have a legal question, we will find a lawyer that can provide you with an answer.

A: Standby Appointments or Drop In Appointments do not have a set time for the appointment. You will be given a time frame to come to the Free Legal Clinic and will have to wait until the lawyer can talk to you. If you are booked a standby appointment you will get to talk to the lawyer on that day.

Sometimes people do not show up to their appointment or their appointment does not take as long as expected. We book Standby Appointments to try to get as many clients served as soon as possible.

A: We can provide telephone appointments anywhere in the province! The lawyer will call you at your appointment time to provide free legal advice.

You may be booked a standby telephone appointment which means you will not be given a set time for your appointment but given a timeframe in which the lawyer will give you a call to talk about your legal matter.

Telephone appointments are also available to anyone who may not be able to access a Free Legal Clinic for any reason.

A: Free! We do not accept any money for any of the services we provide.

A: Yes. You can book more than one appointment for a legal matter. We cannot guarantee that your next appointment will be with the same lawyer as your last appointment.

A: You can call the Crown Prosecutor and explain that you have an appointment with Pro Bono Law Saskatchewan and would like to get a copy of your disclosure. You can give a copy of your Confirmation of Appointment letter from Pro Bono Law Saskatchewan to show the Crown Prosecutor that you have an appointment. You can also ask the Crown Prosecutor about your disclosure at your first court appearance.

When you get your disclosure, you will have to sign a release that says you cannot share your disclosure with anyone except for a lawyer.

If you have your disclosure, please send in a copy to the Pro Bono Law Saskatchewan office before your appointment. The volunteer lawyer can look at the disclosure before the appointment to better help you.
